The Gila Monster and The Beaded Lizard!

Coyote Peterson is in Arizona. He is going to be talking about two big lizards called, The Beaded Lizard, and, The Gila Monster!

Coyote Peterson said that the Beaded lizard and the Gila Monster happens to be the only two venomous lizards in the Western hemisphere. Mario said the Beaded lizard and the Gila Monster both belong to the genus Heloderma, which means they both have studded skin.

Do you see those bumps on the lizard? Well, they are actually little bones covered with skin and scale., which makes them look beaded or armored.

The Beaded lizard can grow up to about three feet! Wow! That is a big lizard! The Beaded lizard looks really cool because it looks like it has really strong armor.

Mario said you will find the Beaded lizards in Mexico down to Guatemala.  And the Gila Monster overlaps in certain ranges as the Beaded lizard. He also said the Beaded lizard and the Gila Monster have very pore eyesight, that they use their tongue and their sense of hearing and sense of smell to detect prey and predators.

The Gila Monster and the Beaded lizard eats bird nests, other eggs, or other young, because of how slow they are.

The Beaded lizard has more venom than the Gila Monster because the Beaded lizard is bigger so that means it has a little bit more venom than the Gila Monster.
